Save Money
In our “Money Matters” series, we’re tackling a vital topic today—saving money. Why focus on money? Simply put, money is a fundamental part of daily life, and the Bible has plenty to say about it. In fact, there are over 2,000 scriptures covering wealth, finance, and resources. Even Jesus dedicated nearly half of his parables to managing wealth. Today, we’re learning about the biblical principle of saving, a discipline that enables us to prepare wisely for the future.
Let’s start with Proverbs 6:6-8, where we’re encouraged to consider the ways of the ant. Despite having no overseer, the ant diligently stores food in preparation for lean times. This simple creature reminds us of the importance of foresight and preparing for future seasons. Like the ant, we must recognize that abundance is temporary; changes in income, opportunities, and circumstances are inevitable. Our wisdom lies in proactively saving to ensure we’re ready for life’s financial twists and turns.
Joseph’s counsel to Pharaoh in Genesis 41:34-36 underscores this message. Joseph advised saving during seven years of abundance to sustain Egypt through the impending seven years of drought. This biblical story highlights saving as a means to guard against economic hardships, unforeseen expenses, and emergencies. When we wisely save a portion of our earnings, we’re fortifying our financial stability for the future.
Saving isn’t just about safeguarding resources; it reflects good stewardship of the blessings God provides. It allows us to live wisely, to be prepared, and to maintain stability even when seasons change. We encourage everyone to cultivate a habit of saving—it’s a practice rooted in biblical wisdom that promises peace and security in the days ahead.
