Mastering Money
In discussing the Money Matters series, we need also to focus on mastering money—not allowing it to master us. Let us look at Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters…You cannot serve God and money.” Jesus’ words remind us to establish God as our ultimate guide, not wealth. The question then becomes: will you be ruled by God or by money?
To manage money wisely, we must first decide it will serve us, not control us. Wealth as a master is relentless—it can push us to pursue money above relationships, peace, and integrity. When money becomes our master, it fosters discontent and erodes meaningful connections, often straining relationships through competition or power struggles. However, by choosing to master money, we unlock its potential as a powerful tool.
When managed wisely, money offers freedom, choice, and the ability to give generously. As a servant, money can be directed to support education, secure financial goals, and spread hope through kingdom-driven initiatives. Being generous, contributing to cherished causes, and supporting the less privileged are powerful uses of wealth aligned with God’s purpose.
Ultimately, a life of abundance is grounded in balance. When you master money, it works to support your goals, bring peace, and expand the kingdom of God. As we conclude, let’s remember: make money your servant, not your master. With this approach, your life will be truly enriched—from within.
